They lease the tracks from CSX which SAL built the line in the late 1880s-early 1890s to connect Yulee/Jacksonville to Savannah. It became SAL's main line to Florida shortly thereafter. We found pics of the bridge in 1920s with 2 steel trusses on either side of the swing span so sometime later the truss spans were replaced by steel girder spans. Both spans of the RR and highway bridge next to it are locked in place but can be opened only with advanced notice and permission by CSX and FDOT respectively. | 2/17 |
